Graduation day at BYU-Idaho
A little about me.
Well, I'm from a little farming community in Southern Alberta called Raymond.  Even though it's pretty flat and there's not much to do in my town except go bridge jumping, I'm happy I grew up there!  I'm 25 years old - the youngest of 3 older sisters: Leslie, Tiz, and Jenny.  My Mom and Dad still live in Canada and I try to go see them as often as school holidays and weather permit!

In my opinion, anyone who possesses the means and the motivation can receive an education.  And sometimes getting that education is difficult.  But I believe that if you can learn to work hard and be diligent, it's possible.  I received my Bachelors of Science degree at BYU-Idaho in Math Education.  Math is what I liked, and I discovered that I LOVED to help people understand it!  Since I made the decision to become a math teacher, I have had many great experiences that have solidified my that decision.  I don't ever regret it.

I was hired to teach at Madison High School in August 2008.  I teach Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Geometry.  I know that sometimes students see math class as a drag, so I try my best to lighten things up as I teach.  I also sometimes try to help the students see how their subject applies to real situations (but those usually come in the form of  word problems - most students don't like them!  I think that's hilarious!).  My goals as a teacher are to provide an environment where students can ask questions and be honest with me. Other goals include to teach them the skills that they may need for the future.  Not just math skills, but also respect and accountability.  Aside from these, the one thing I consider most important as a teacher is that my students know that I care about them; I hope to accomplish that in my career.

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride!
My family and I went to California this last summer and had a blast.  It was quite the trip.  We started in Canada and made our way through Montana, Idaho, and then to Oregon to pick up my other sister.  We started at the tip of California and saw the Redwoods!  They were just amazing!  Finally, 41 driving hours later, we landed in Oceanside.  And we totally got to stay at a condo right next to the ocean!  But the days we weren't hitting the beach, we went to the happiest place on earth!  All these guys belong to my sisters!  Disneyland was so much fun with them!  Hopefully we can go back in the next couple of years!

I have recently been accepted to BYU to pursue a Master's Program in Math Education.  So back to school I go for the next 2 years!  Just even hearing the word "thesis" scares me - I admit it, but it's going to be fantastic!  I've missed being in college a bit, so I'm excited to be a student again!  What's going to be crazy is if I see some of my students there too!  It will be a great experience, but I will always be grateful for the time I have taught at Madison High School.  I have worked with amazing faculty and students who have helped me to become a better teacher.  It has been a wonderful opportunity and blessing.  Thank you.
